Keep your full-time job or other work commitments and freelance with SMT to strengthen people power movements in your country a few hours a week over the coming months. This is an opportunity to connect SMT with networks and movements in your country and share upcoming opportunities with activists and groups/networks to strengthen their work. In particular, you'll be sharing this training series and support that is free to activist groups of 10 or more.
Social Movement Technologies’ mission is to provide strategy, training and campaign support to build people-power for justice and win in the digital age. We're an NGO movement support group, driven 100% to meet movement needs. We're super lean - we do lots with little, just like most of the groups we work with. SMT’s small but highly effective team has trained staff from over 4900 groups and unions over its first ten years and worked with 200+ groups on campaigns more in-depth.
SMT provides the in-depth campaign training staff and activists need in the digital age. Check out free existing training recordings.
Our goal is to expand access by driving down the cost of trainings and providing excellent online learning experiences to deepen organizing proficiency dramatically. Our focus is on using digital campaigning to amplify in-person action, broaden support, activate supporters, and pressure targets.
Compensation is $35/week for 2-3 hours of outreach per week, plus a credit of $500 towards paid courses in SMT's course library.
How to apply: Share some of the networks/movements you are part of or know of. This app only allows one doc upload, so please include your list of networks and movements at the end of your cover letter. Three movement-based references from activists will also be required after an interview.
***You should have a list of activist networks and groups you work with, and be familiar with different movements in your country of residence. Please don't take the time to apply if this is not the case. Thank you!***
We regret that we will not be able to acknowledge all applications in a personal way, nor do we have the capacity to have pre-application conversations. We greatly appreciate that time and care is invested in each of them so we will not consider applications without a cover letter. The positions will be open until filled. All application information will remain strictly confidential. SMT receives no corporate or government funding and does not partner with any government or corporation to avoid any conflict of interest and ensure it can be fully responsive to the needs of activists and movement organizations.
Social Movement Technologies is an equal opportunity and inclusive employer. We believe a diverse staff enables us to understand better and serve our members, audience, and community.
