We're looking for someone who can help make internal systems hum, working with other members of the staff team. This position encompasses a mix of operations work and project management, and can even include working with partner groups where you have expertise if that is something you want. While we have some definite needs, we strive to build on the skills and passion of the person in the job.

Social Movement Technologies’ mission is to provide organizing strategy, training and campaign support to build people-power for justice in the digital age. We're a non-profit movement support group, driven 100% to meet movement needs. We're super lean - we do lots with little, just like most of the groups we work with. Increasingly SMT is training and working with groups working on racial and climate justice that need support to ramp up online. SMT’s small but highly effective team has trained staff from over 5000 groups and unions over its first 13 years, and worked with 200+ groups on campaigns more in-depth.
Compensation and Hours. This is a full-time position. SMT's culture is hard-driving and highly collaborative. We're looking for people driven and passionate about their work and building justice in the world - and feel privileged to be able to do this work as more of a life calling than a job. (Expect work weeks to range 40-50 hours, averaging 45.) SMT is a terrific place for extensive access to skill-building and professional development. Must be able to work during at least 6 normal EST work hours. Salary $50,000 - $65,000 /year if based in U.S., depending on location and experience. The higher end of the scale is for someone with outstanding operations experience in a higher-cost city. If based in a country with a lower cost of living, the salary range is adjusted proportionally. Healthcare contribution of $500/month, generous paid time off, and IRA retirement plan benefits. SMT has internal career ladders with significant growth potential in both responsibility and compensation.
It isn't necessary to start full-time. A part-time to full-time transition over the first month or two is an option if desired.
Here are some examples of what you might help with or lead on:
- Help manage SMT's social media accounts to support movement groups and curate content of interest
- Ensure that emails and other materials go out error-free.
- Lead training registration, operations, and everything it will take to make sure training participants have a successful experience
- Help with a variety of outreach tasks using several tools
- Run payments, billing, and invoicing for the team
- Manage edits to SMT's website
- Respond to questions and inquiries by groups
- Help onboard new team members
- Clean up data in spreadsheets
- Run special projects, coordinating team members as needed
What we’re looking for in you:
- High attention to detail is a must. Excellent proofing and copy-editing skills are required.
- Committed and experienced with movement work
- Experience working with or in Black/brown-led groups
- Able to multi-task and juggle multiple projects and communicate reliably about them
- Friendly and encouraging, and able to convey this via email, video conferencing, and phone
- Super motivated to learn more and stay abreast of new developments
- Able to schedule yourself reliably and be attentive to deadlines
- Interested in this for more than a year or two. This is not a short-term in-between kind of position.
Extras:
- Experienced in project management, understanding how to manage a team and break down deadlines etc.
- Familiarity with Action Network or quick study with experience using CRMs
- Familiarity with WordPress, Canva, Google Suite, Zapier automation, Zoom, Airtable, Calendly, ClickUp or Asana, AI tools is a plus
- Comfortable manipulating data in spreadsheets/uploading/downloading
